Desk Makeover

When Trevor and I got married and combined all of our stuff and ended up with a crazy mix of furniture, including two ugly desks.  The desk I brought into the marriage was a particle board beat up desk that my parents picked up for free from someone's garage, but I loved it :)  Trevor quickly made me trash that desk. However, his ikea desk wasn't much better, and it was in storage in Houston.  Our apartment had a built in desk so we didn't have a need for one while we were in Austin.

Once we moved into our house we brought his desk out of storage and set it up in the office.

It has remained there for the past year.  But I have always hated how it it blocks the front window.  We had been talking for a while about getting a new desk and where we would put it.  One day Trevor texted me out of the blue and said that he remembered an old desk his parents had that he thought might be in storage now.   He asked his parents about it and they said it was in storage out at the ranch and that we were welcome to take it!  So on our last trip to the ranch we picked it up and put it in our garage until we could work on it.

It was light wood which wouldn't really work with the rest of our furniture, so I wanted to either paint it white or stain it darker.  We decided to put it in the living room since it is smaller and so I figured we had enough white furniture in there already so we should stain it darker.

Here is the desk before:

We got to work sanding it down, prepping it for the stain.

Then someone came by wanting to help.

So we put her to work.

And here is the final product:

We were high for about a week after we brought it inside from all the fumes, but we love it!
