Mallory's Shower

I went to Mallory's first wedding shower this past weekend in Austin.  Johnna, Sarah, and I made the trek from Corpus and arrived just in time for the shower at the pottery painting shop in the triangle.  It was a supposed to be a surprise shower for Mal, so I tried to throw her off all week by telling her of our plans to go to the beach that weekend.  Hopefully it worked, because she seemed surprised to see us there!  We were all supposed to paint something for Rob and Mal, so Johnna, Sarah, Diana and I teamed up and painted a big serving platter together.  After the shower we went back to Mal's house and then headed out to dinner at Austin Java with Mal, her mom, and roomie Kayla.

It was a fun, quick trip!  I found this program online that makes mosaics with your pics, this was my first time to play around with it.  The cropping is a little off, but it is still fun.  Here are some pics from the shower:

Show Us your Life - How you met your husband

Today's "Show Us your Life" over at Kelly's Korner is "How you met your husband".  I wasn't planning on writing about this one, but my mom was just cleaning up her computer and getting rid of my old pictures that I had saved on it, and she came across the funniest picture and emailed it to me.  This is the very first picture that Trevor and I ever took together!

Isn't it hilarious?  This was taken the summer of 2003.  I had just graduated high school and went to work at Laity Lodge Youth Camp for the summer.  Trevor was a counselor and I did Canyon Club, working with the director's kids.  We really didn't hang out at all that summer, I'm not sure if we even talked to each other.  But for some reason we posed for the camp photographer in this picture together with Mary Claire, who was on Canyon Club with me.  Camp puts all their pictures online for the parents to see and I had gotten this one off the website and saved it to my parents computer.

After that summer I started my freshman year at Texas A&M and Trevor went back to Baylor for his sophomore year. We both came back every summer afterward and continued to work in different areas of camp; always crossing paths, but never getting to know each other.

It wasn't until the summer of 2006 that we actually had the chance to get to know each other.  We were both on central staff at Echo Valley and it didn't take long for us to both develop innocent "camp crushes"on each other.  We were both extremely shy and were still trying to feel each other out for if we thought the other had the same feelings.  He wanted to hang out with me the day camp got out for the summer and then we had an awkward goodbye saying something like, "well we should hang out sometime" and "yeah, sure, that sounds great".

Summer 2006 - Rodeo

I went on a road trip to California with some of my girlfriends right after that and he actually called me while I was in the car with everyone and invited me to go out to his ranch the first weekend after school started with some of his friends and told me to bring friends too.  I was so giddy!

Well I brought my friends Beth and Johnna with me to his ranch and he brought a couple of guys friends and we had a great weekend.  However, I got a little depressed thinking that I was mistaken and that he didn't really like me because he treated me no differently then he treated Beth and Johnna.  I had fun, but went back home and told everyone that he didn't really like me the way I thought he had!

However, it wasn't long after that weekend that I posted a picture on facebook of me feeding a giraffe a carrot out of my mouth.  I got an email shortly after I posted it saying that Trevor had commented on the picture.  I was so happy to even see his name in my inbox.  Then I opened the picture and saw that his comment on the picture was "lucky giraffe"!  I knew then that he did have feelings for me, and well the rest is history!

lucky giraffe!

We started dating officially on October 7, 2006 (Mallory's Birthday) after we attended a wedding together ( I guess love was in the air!).  We both graduated that December, I finished a semester early and he took an extra semester.  We continued to stay in our respective college towns during the spring semester and then both worked at camp again together.

Right after we started dating at an A&M game together

We got engaged September 8, 2007, eleven months and one day after we started dating (he wanted to do it on our eleven month anniversary but Mallory scared him into planning out the proposal one extra day).

And four months later on January 26, 2008 we became husband and wife!

That's our story!  Glad to have it finally written all down so we won't forget the details!

I made the cut!

I did it! I have been growing out my hair ever since my roommate Jordan and I went and chopped off all of our hair on a whim one back back in 2007.  So for three years now I have only cut my hair a handful of times and no more than a trim each time.  I decided a while back to grow it out to donate and it was finally long enough to cut and still be able to have the length of hair I wanted to keep.  Trevor wasn't a huge fan of my short short hair, so I wanted to have some length still :).

I made my appointment for April 16th, way back in November knowing that that date would be the next time I would be in Houston long enough to get my hair cut.  Trevor has gotten me hooked on Felicia, the lady that has cut his hair ever since he was little.  At first I thought he was ridiculous for coming back home every time he needed a hair cut, but then I had her cut my hair once and now I am hooked too!

So Trevor had the day off to celebrate the end of tax season (yea!) and his cousin is getting married today in Hempstead so we came to Houston yesterday morning and both got haircuts.  Bethany joined us and had her hair cut too!  I made Trevor get his done first and Felicia gave me a mini lesson on hair cutting and how to shape his up in between cuts!  I learned some pretty useful tips and can't wait to try them out.  Look how handsome he looks now:

Then it was my turn!  Here are the nervous before pics:

Bethany did a great job of documenting the process and I think they speak for themselves...

I am donating it to Pantene Pro V's Beautiful Lengths program, which make wigs for women with cancer.  Last time I donated my hair I gave it to Locks for Love, but I love that Beautiful Lengths makes them especially for women with cancer.  With everything that you face from the diagnosis of cancer, hair loss from chemo is the last thing that a person should have to worry about.  Their website said that a recent study found that nearly 60% of women consider hair loss the most dreaded side effect they face from undergoing chemotherapy.  Although it takes around 6 ponytails to make one wig, I am happy that I can give a little to help!

Easter

I just love Easter.  It is always a great time of reflection over who our God is and what He's done for us, and rejoice that we have a risen Lord!  And what better place to do that than in the place where you can't help but wonder at his creations, Laity Lodge.  Every year Trevor's family along with a big group from St. Luke's in Houston go to Laity Lodge for a family camp over Easter weekend.  It is one of my favorite traditions that I have married into :)  It also works out great that camp is so close to my parents house so that we are able to celebrate Easter day with them on Sunday after we leave.  I took a lot of pictures out at camp and at my parents house, so get ready for a picture overload....
