Isn't it hilarious? This was taken the summer of 2003. I had just graduated high school and went to work at Laity Lodge Youth Camp for the summer. Trevor was a counselor and I did Canyon Club, working with the director's kids. We really didn't hang out at all that summer, I'm not sure if we even talked to each other. But for some reason we posed for the camp photographer in this picture together with Mary Claire, who was on Canyon Club with me. Camp puts all their pictures online for the parents to see and I had gotten this one off the website and saved it to my parents computer.
After that summer I started my freshman year at Texas A&M and Trevor went back to Baylor for his sophomore year. We both came back every summer afterward and continued to work in different areas of camp; always crossing paths, but never getting to know each other.
It wasn't until the summer of 2006 that we actually had the chance to get to know each other. We were both on central staff at Echo Valley and it didn't take long for us to both develop innocent "camp crushes"on each other. We were both extremely shy and were still trying to feel each other out for if we thought the other had the same feelings. He wanted to hang out with me the day camp got out for the summer and then we had an awkward goodbye saying something like, "well we should hang out sometime" and "yeah, sure, that sounds great".
Summer 2006 - Rodeo
I went on a road trip to California with some of my girlfriends right after that and he actually called me while I was in the car with everyone and invited me to go out to his ranch the first weekend after school started with some of his friends and told me to bring friends too. I was so giddy!

Well I brought my friends Beth and Johnna with me to his ranch and he brought a couple of guys friends and we had a great weekend. However, I got a little depressed thinking that I was mistaken and that he didn't really like me because he treated me no differently then he treated Beth and Johnna. I had fun, but went back home and told everyone that he didn't really like me the way I thought he had!

However, it wasn't long after that weekend that I posted a picture on facebook of me feeding a giraffe a carrot out of my mouth. I got an email shortly after I posted it saying that Trevor had commented on the picture. I was so happy to even see his name in my inbox. Then I opened the picture and saw that his comment on the picture was "lucky giraffe"! I knew then that he did have feelings for me, and well the rest is history!
lucky giraffe!
We started dating officially on October 7, 2006 (Mallory's Birthday) after we attended a wedding together ( I guess love was in the air!). We both graduated that December, I finished a semester early and he took an extra semester. We continued to stay in our respective college towns during the spring semester and then both worked at camp again together.
Right after we started dating at an A&M game together
We got engaged September 8, 2007, eleven months and one day after we started dating (he wanted to do it on our eleven month anniversary but Mallory scared him into planning out the proposal one extra day).
And four months later on January 26, 2008 we became husband and wife!

What a sweet story. I am so glad it is a non-fiction! I Love you both.
